User Experience as a practice is a misnomer. The acronym “UX”, like the name of this blog, has become such a buzzword, that it’s oven overused which has led to confusing around what it really means. To “do UX” or even “design a user experience” is like saying “I design people’s emotions”.

Experience Design is the broader term that encapsulates “User Experience”, “Service Design”, “Interaction Design”, “Information Architecture”, “Visual Design”, “Branding”, and several other UX-related disciplines.

For one individual and discipline to be responsible for the design of the experience, is nearly impossible. It takes multiple disciplines, perspectives, considerations to understand and help control the experience that a user will have when interacting with a product, service, or brand. This even reaches into areas not typically thought of as associated with UX/Experience Design, such as marketing and front end development.
